FLYNN JASON JAXON TOMCHUK

Flynn moved to Richland with his family in March 1978. He graduated from Richland High in 1982. His love of working outdoors and a natural aptitude for landscape designing led him to his secular career path. In 1984, Flynn achieved two important milestones. First, he married the love of his life, Tanya. Secondly, a close friend and he purchased Atomic Lawns, a local lawn care maintenance business. They worked hard and their industriousness and integrity resulted in the business growing into a successful, full services landscape company, SunScapes, Inc. Flynn's family and home was a place for people to gather, relax and enjoy one another's association. He enjoyed entertaining and spending time with close friends. He and Tanya raised their daughter with the same love for people that they openly demonstrated., Flynn chose to become a baptized Jehovah's Witness and symbolized his dedication by water immersion in 1982. He was active in the ministry, sharing Bible truths with people in the community. In his spare time and on weekends, Flynn volunteered his time and resources to engage in the construction of many new Kingdom Halls in various communities in Eastern Washington. He served as a department head on the Regional Building Committee, organizing equipment, acquiring materials and scheduling labor to support the construction projects to successful completion. This activity brought him considerable joy and satisfaction working closely with many other volunteers to build beautiful houses of worship for other Witnesses., Flynn and his family pursued a goal to travel to Roatan to share Bible teachings with the residents there. Their diligent efforts to serve where there is a great need for Bible education resulted in a few interested individuals growing into a good-sized, active congregation. Flynn conducted many Bible studies and showed keen personal interest in helping younger people advance their Bible knowledge. He often said the happiest time of his life was being in the full-time ministry along with his wife Tanya, daughter Alisha and son-in-law Ronnie., '... time and unforeseen occurrence ...,' (Eccl. 9:11) brought a sudden end to the work Flynn loved most. However, it is not a permanent end but a temporary interruption. Flynn believed strongly in the Bible's clear promise of the resurrection hope, just as other faithful Christians did in the past. It is only a matter of time now before we will see Flynn and that heartwarming smile, when he is remembered and restored to life everlasting in paradise on a new earth. The Book of Job describes God's earnest desire to restore life to his faithful worshippers, where Job says of God, 'You will call, and I myself shall answer you. For the work of your hands you will have a yearning.' (Job 14:15) We anxiously await that wonderful day when loved ones lost to the enemy death are reunited with those that love them., Flynn is survived by Tanya, his wife of 27 years; his daughter Alisha, son-in-law Ronnie; his mother and father, Beverley and Robert Tomchuk; his sisters, Bobbi Tomchuk-Siemens of Medicine Hat, Alberta; Nikki Rea of Munroe, WA; and sister and brother-in-law, Corey and Stephan Ferrians of Pasco, WA; and many loving relatives., At this time of great loss, we pause to acknowledge and sincerely thank everyone for their kind thoughts, expressions of affection, and prayers on behalf of the family.

Florence Ingram Cunningham

Florence Ingram Cunningham was born on April 26, 1918 in La Grande, Oregon, and died in Seattle, Washington on February 24, 2011 at the age of 92. She grew up Colfax, Washington, and graduated from Eastern Washington University with a teaching degree. In 1949, she came to Kent, Washington to teach, where she met and married Norwood Cunningham on February 3, 1950. Norwood died in August, 1979. Florence is survived by her family, Joel and Amy Cunningham; Brian and his fiancée, Katie Cogan; her two grandchildren, Erin and Rad Cunningham, and one great-grandchild, Zack Volpi., Florence loved her cousin, Mary Henry of Spokane, who predeceased her, like a sister. She considered the whole Henry clan to be family. She cherished her summer visits to Hayden Lake at the Henry family compound. Despite moving to Kent, Florence always loved the Palouse country where she grew up., Florence loved her family and her family loved her. Our best times were sitting around the dinner table at her home in Kent, eating the feel-good meals she cooked. Florence did, however, require conver-sation at the dinner table along with proper manners., Florence loved books. Her favorite author was P.G. Wodehouse, a British author of many books, plays, and musicals. She loved Wodehouse because he wrote witty, cheerful books. She belonged to the P.G. Wodehouse Society, and became its international president., Two words best describe Florence: elegance and cheerfulness. She lived as if the old saying "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" was the 11th commandment. She believed there was good in everyone, and it was our job to find it. Mom taught us that we have an obligation in life to leave the world a better place than we found it. You did that, mom., The Memorial Service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church of Kent, 24447 - 94th Ave. S., Kent, Washington at noon on Friday, March 4, 2011. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to the St. James Episcopal Church of Kent, the children's playground fund.

JERRY KEITH CARLSON

Jerry Keith Carlson passed away surrounded by family late Wednesday night, February 23rd, and is now with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jerry was born in Monroe, Washington on May 21st 1938 to Roy and Vera Carlson., He loved to be around people and made friends easily. When he wasn't busy at home cleaning the chicken coop, picking apples from the orchard for pies or stacking firewood, he could be found with all the neighborhood kids playing until it was too dark to find the last baseball smacked into the cornfield., By the time Jerry was a sophomore in high school, he had sprouted to 6' 4" and played on the varsity basketball team. Monroe had dreams of multiple state tournament runs with their talented sharp shooting center as their foundation but the town's collective hearts were broken when he moved with his family to Camano Island the summer leading into his junior year., Jerry would have told you he enjoyed his sport's memories at Twin City High School but the highlight of moving to Stanwood was meeting the love of his life his junior year at the new school. While Jerry helped Twin City win basketball games, a pretty, auburn haired song leader was winning his heart. Jerry fell in love with Anita Olsen and they were married on June 29th 1956., He worked briefly for Hamilton Lumber, Boeings and the Stanwood Water Co. before being hired on by his father Roy to help establish his father's fledging milk hauling operation started in 1959. Roy passed away in 1971. With the help of his brothers, Roy N. Carlson Inc. began to experience unprecedented growth by diversifying beyond just hauling milk. In the early 1980's, the company expanded into hauling edible oils, honey, vinegar, sugar and flour., Jerry truly cared for his many employees and their families and they felt his compassion toward them. Jerry felt the grind of driving truck for many years and later managing a growing business which demanded so much of his time. He desired to spend more time with family and friends but often said, "Cows never take a day off so I can't either.", The opportunity to be able to spend more time with his friends and family finally came when he retired in 1999. He loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events and afterwards taking them out to pizza or a hamburger. He was now able to practice his golf game and enjoyed playing with family and friends. He could now stay awake after a Christmas dinner and loved to play cards and board games knowing he didn't have to get up early the next morning. He looked forward to his morning walks with his neighborhood buddies., He and Anita joined Camano Chapel and felt blessed to renew his relationship with his God. He loved his wife, his family and his friends and lived by the Golden Rule to "Love your neighbor as yourself.", Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Vera Carlson and his grandson Davis Carlson., He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Anita Louise Carlson; his children Terry Carlson (Karen), Jana Hudson (Dale) and Garry Carlson (Merry); his grandchildren Katie Kelley (Jason), Jaymi Lee (Matt), Michael Carlson (Signe), Kelsey Hudson, Tyler Hudson, Emily Hudson and Taylor Carlson, four great-grandchildren, his brother's Royce (Corky) Carlson (Sharon) and Bruce Carlson (Doris), his sister Sharon Schultz (Norm) and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews., A memorial service will be held at Camano Chapel on the west side of Camano Island March 5th at 1pm., Memorials may be given to either the Davis Carlson Memorial Foundation in care of The Stanwood/Camano Resource Center at 9620-271st St. Stanwood, WA 98292 or to Camano Chapel at 867 S.W. Camano Dr. Camano Is., WA 98282., Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.

Jeffrey Jonathan Kemmish

My son, Jeffrey, died on Wednesday, the 23rd of February, ending an eight year struggle with pain, disability, and depression because of injuries sustained from a 48 foot fall in March of 2003 which he miraculously survived., Jeffrey worked every day with valor, motivation, and strength to fight through the pain and have a normal life. In the past few years the monumental pain he suffered daily, attempts through doctors, medication, and therapy to dispel, finally became too much to overcome and he ended his life., His final message: "To my friends and family whom I've loved, today I end my pain. I fell eight years ago and have never stopped hurting. I'm sorry I'm weak but a soldier knows his limits and I am at mine. I love you, never forget Jeffrey Jonathan Kemmish.", Jeff was a soldier fighting to save animals; an inspiration to his entire family and to dozens of friends. So many hands and hearts touched him in the effort to save his life after the fall in 2003. Months followed with therapies to re-learn how to move his shattered limbs which required numerous surgeries to give him a chance to walk. He endured all of this with more courage and determination than anyone I have ever known., Without a single complaint, he set to work with all his might to recover, and he lived, walked, and talked against all odds because of the fiber of character that made him Jeff. He worked hard to recover his missed months from school with the help of teachers and friends and returned to Mt Spokane High School the following September, excelling in his studies., He spent time in college at Eastern and decided, after a couple of years, to take a break and go to work at a job involving animals. This was a lifelong dream of his and a way to give something back to the community that was his home. He was active in the community promoting animal welfare spending time rescuing animals and finding homes for them. His strong passion for animals was a comfort to him and compelled him to act as often as he could to protect them. My sisters, who loved Jeff as their own, his sister and brother and I are hoping, with the help of the community, to transform the property where Jeff was originally injured to create a memorial dog park., I welcome any dialog about the dog park project, any advice about how to accomplish this as well as any memories others who knew Jeffrey please send e-mail messages to, Also, an account for Jeff is set up under Our Jeffrey Memorial at Spokane Teacher's Credit Union., Jeffrey strived to make a difference in his short life and we are motivated to continue his legacy to promote the love of animals. This could be the beginning of a positive community effort to eliminate the menace of the retaining wall currently accessible to children to this day that is the wall outside the fence surrounding this vacant lot on North Division near the Y., Still, children have been reported playing in this lot and "walking the wall", even as young as eight years old. It is imperative that we prevent further disasters., Our deep felt thank you goes out to everyone who has shown support and love for Jeff, my family, and I., Jackilyn Kemmish

Jerry Keith Carlson

Jerry Keith Carlson passed away surrounded by family late Wednesday night, February 23, and is now with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jerry was born in Monroe, Washington on May 21, 1938 to Roy and Vera Carlson., He loved to be around people and made friends easily. When he wasn't busy at home cleaning the chicken coop, picking apples from the orchard for pies or stacking firewood, he could be found with all the neighborhood kids playing until it was too dark to find the last baseball smacked into the cornfield. By the time Jerry was a sophomore in high school, he had sprouted to 6' 4" and played on the varsity basketball team. Monroe had dreams of multiple state tournament runs with their talented sharp shooting center as their foundation but the town's collective hearts were broken when he moved with his family to Camano Island, WA the summer leading into his junior year., Jerry would have told you he enjoyed his sport's memories at Twin City High School but the highlight of moving to Stanwood, WA was meeting the love of his life his junior year at the new school. While Jerry helped Twin City win basketball games, a pretty, auburn haired song leader was winning his heart. Jerry fell in love with Anita Olsen and they were married on June 29, 1956., He worked briefly for Hamilton Lumber, Boeing and the Stanwood Water Co. before being hired on by his father, Roy, to help establish his father's fledgling milk hauling operation started in 1959. Jerry felt the grind of driving trucks for many years and later managing a growing business which demanded so much of his time. He looked forward to his morning walks with his neighborhood buddies. He and Anita joined Camano Chapel and felt blessed to renew his relationship with his God. He loved his wife, his family and his friends and lived by the Golden Rule to "Love your neighbor as yourself.", Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Vera Carlson; and his grandson, Davis Carlson., He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anita Louise Carlson; his children, Terry Carlson (Karen), Jana Hudson (Dale) and Garry Carlson (Merry); his grandchildren, Katie Kelley (Jason), Jaymi Lee (Matt), Michael Carlson (Signe), Kelsey Hudson, Tyler Hudson, Emily Hudson and Taylor Carlson; four great-grandchildren; his brothers, Royce (Corky) Carlson (Sharon) and Bruce Carlson (Doris); his sister, Sharon Schultz (Norm); and numerous cousins; nieces; and nephews., A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., March 5 at Camano Chapel on the west side of Camano Island., Memorials may be given to either the Davis Carlson Memorial Foundation, in care of The Stanwood/ Camano Resource Center, at 9620 271st St. Stanwood, WA 98292; or to Camano Chapel at 867 S.W. After the stock market crash of 1929, they lost all their sheep holdings and his father was forced into any odd job just to care for his young family. Dad often said they grew up enjoying the simple pleasures of life hiking and fishing the beautiful Wasatch Mountains, never knowing just how poor they were., At the young age of 20, one month after the attack on Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He quickly passed all the qualifying tests in officer training and in one and a half years rose to a First Lieutenant. He was then made Captain, as well as the Squadron Commander, flying the B17 Bomber on 29 missions over much of Europe and was decorated the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with clusters, and the European Campaign Ribbon with five major battle stars., He married the love of his life, Pauline Owen on June 20, 1950. After discharge, he and Pauline headed to Berkeley, California, entering Engineering School and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgy. Two daughters, Jody and Jennifer, were born there while attending the university. Their little family then moved to Richland, Washington, and he joined the Hanford Laboratory as Research Engineer. He obtained a Master's Degree in Materials Science at WSU in Pullman and was then promoted to Senior Engineer with the PNNL. Their two sons Kirk and Darren were added to their family shortly thereafter., In the early 1970's, Kenneth was a co-recipient of two U.S. patents for his development of porous metal used in bone implants, and was listed as the Who's Who in the West in 1982-1983., Kenneth was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in numerous positions including counselor in the bishopric as well as devoting many years as a scoutmaster. She attended Holy Names Academy and graduated from Broadway High School. She attended the University of Washington. She met her husband at Wilson's Modern Business School in Seattle. They were happily married for 67 years. Lavonne was noted for her strong faith, joyful heart, peaceful spirit, mild manner and gift of service. She went from "city girl to farmers' wife." She was a wonderful baker: sponge cake, breads and pies were her specialties. She mastered cooking, preserving, money management, and nurturing her family of nine children. She happily drove those children in her "Big Red Van" to myriad school and sporting events. She loved having a large family and welcomed their friends into the fold. She worked elections at Maplewood Heights Elementary in Renton. She drove a mini bus for special needs children in the Renton school district. For recreation, Lavonne bowled for years with her mother at Hillcrest and Skyway Park Bowls. She enjoyed exotic birds kept in an aviary on the back deck and was a friend to stray cats. She loved vacationing at the family cabin on Hood Canal. Henry was born to Lillie and Henry C. Morgan, Sr. in Seattle. He had an older sister, Sylvia Van Woerden, and a younger brother, William (Bill) Morgan, both now deceased. He entered the family flower business by age eight, helping raise and sell flowers at a stall on the Pike Place Market. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America and volunteered as troop #350 leader in Foster. He was a voracious reader and always said he had his advanced degree from Knocks College ("the school of hard knocks"). He loved hiking and fishing. He particularly enjoyed hunting elk in the Clearwater River area of the Olympic Peninsula. In September, 1942, Henry enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He served in Pasco as an aviation ordinance instructor before transferring aboard the U.S.S. Cape Esperance (CVE 88) for service in the South Pacific during WWII. He survived several typhoons and was instrumental in saving his ship from a kamikaze attack by rapid recognition of a new Japanese plane silhouette and giving the order to fire immediately to his gun crew. An avid story teller, he often drew upon these naval experiences. He worked as a truck driver, initially delivering oil, then milk. Later, he hauled the spent grains (malt) from the Rainier Brewery to Snohomish and Green River Valley farms for cattle feed. He was nicknamed "Henry, the Malt Man" and enjoyed lifelong close relationships with his customers. Henry was an avid gardener until he was 92, growing the flowers that provided his children with money for their college educations. He was a Master Gardener and an active member of the Seattle Tree Fruit Society. He always grew a large vegetable garden. While attending Stevenson High School, she met her sweetheart and life-long partner, Steve Memovich. They graduated with the class of '43., Steve immediately answered his country's call to service. Steve and Marilyn were married June 12, 1944, in Austin, TX, and left the next day for Florida for Steve's final training for active duty as a navigator in the Army Air Corps. While he was overseas, Marilyn lived with her parents who had moved to Portland, OR. Steve and Marilyn were devoted partners, parents and grandparents throughout the rest of their lives., After the war, they lived in Missoula, MT, where Steve attended law school, finally settling in Vancouver in 1957. Marilyn became an active member of the community, serving in leadership roles with the PTA, Girl Scouts, YWCA, Red Cross, and Junior League at various times while raising their four children. She also participated enthusiastically in the garden club, church choir, fishing and skiing. She was an avid sports fan, rooting passionately for Little League, softball, high school sports, Blazers, and Seahawks, as well as any college team where her kids or grandkids were in attendance. Marilyn loved music and dance. She was a tap dancer as a young girl. In the early fifties she established Marilyn's School of Dance so that her daughters could enjoy a similar opportunity., Marilyn always loved a good game, and was a formidable bridge player and golfer. She reveled in scoring two hole-in-one's during her amateur career., She loved a good day on the golf course or a good hand of bridge, but it was good times with good friends and family that meant so much to her. In the early eighties, Marilyn and two of her best friends, Mary Grace and Vera Rivers, operated the Park Hill Stationery Store. They were a hard-working enterprise, but a fun-loving trio., Over the years Marilyn's family activities and responsibilities slowly evolved to simply enjoying the gatherings of her ever-enlarging family. She loved the happy sounds of little kids running through the house playing hide-and-seek, laughter of older kids playing Canfield at the dining table, and thumps of ping-pong and pool games going on upstairs. Her face was bright with joy whenever the little ones brought her a piece of artwork or sang or danced for her., Marilyn is survived by her husband, Steve Memovich of Vancouver; her three daughters, Terri (Mike) Bull of Longview, Mary (Dick) Thompson of Vancouver, and Laura Wilkinson (Dennis Fitzgerald) of Vancouver; her son, Greg Memovich (Karen Fusco) of Silverdale, WA; and her sister, Patricia Bright of Portland. She had twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren., Special thanks to the caregivers who provided loving assistance to her for the past several months and supported her and her family in her final days., A viewing will be held on Sat., March 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with a funeral to follow on Sun., March 6th at 12:30 p.m., Memorial contributions can be made to the Red Cross or YWCA., Please sign Marilyn's guest book at:

He attended Spokane Falls and Radio Broadcast School for short periods., Sam was formally diagnosed with M.S. in 1969, but was drafted into the Marines anyway. He came home a month later with his first major exacerbation of M.S., which was obvious by its symptoms ever after., Sam was well known as a fighter in high school, and thereafter, as an inspiring and courageous fighter of his M.S. Sam had difficult moments when his words could hurt, but he was mostly a gregarious person, and an inspiration to many, with a heart and soul full of peace, love and rock and roll., In 1981 Sam became famous as the first person to establish "Medical Necessity" for his medical use of marijuana for his M.S. in the State and U.S. His battle has helped multiple medical marijuana patients, and has helped change society's attitudes., More notable was Sam's extraordinary courage, persistence and perseverance in his battle with M.S. He had a love of life, a love of people and nature, and great appreciation for the kindness and assistance of others. Despite occasional harsh words fueled by pain and frustration over his ever declining physical ability, Sam usually was silent about his pain, and seldom complained unless things were really bad. In truth, Sam really was a big softie., Sam broke a leg when bucked from his wheelchair on February 13. His health spiraled, and after his last valiant battle, he passed away in the presence of his family., Sam was one of a kind and will be truly missed!, Sam was preceded in death, by his parents and brother Tony. He is survived by his brothers George and Carl J. Diana, his sister Mary Diana Harris, numerous nieces and nephews, a grandniece and grand nephew, two uncles and an aunt., An informal memorial service shall be held for Sam on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., at the Sunset Memorial Chapel at Fairmont Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley, Spokane. Sam's ashes will be buried at Spokane Memorial Gardens at a later date., The Diana family extends its sincere appreciation to Sam's many friends and caregivers, whose efforts and company made Sam's long survival possible, and to the entire Sacred Heart family for its sensitive care without regard to Sam's resources., Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the M.S. Society in Sam's name.

Yvonne Siard Hager

Yvonne Siard HAGER Yvonne Siard Hager, Mrs. Nevada of 1966, died peacefully in her home in Issaquah, Washington on February 25, 2011. Shewas 95 years old. Yvonne was born in Winnemucca, Nevada, to Blanche Robert Siard and Sylvain Siard, who had immigrated from France to raise cattle, sheep, and horses in Humboldt and Pershing Counties. At the age of eleven, when her father died, and with her mother speaking only French, Yvonne became the family spokeswoman. Thanks to the hard work of her older brother Rene - a cousin who was adopted by her parents after the death of his own father - Yvonne and her family, which by now included two younger brothers, were able to stay on the ranch. After graduating from Humboldt High School in the midst of the Great Depression, Yvonne put herself through college at the University of Nevada-Reno, earning a teaching degree. She taught for a year in a one-room schoolhouse and spent thirteen years teaching second grade at Winnemucca Grammar School. She married Edward Hager, a mining engineer, in 1950. With her two sons in school and her husband travelling the world on business, she plunged into civic activities. She was a charter member of the Winnemucca Business and Professional Club and the Eta Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority; and a member of numerous other organizations, including the American Association of University Women and St. Paul's Altar Society. Yvonne also enjoyed contests of every description. Before winning the Mrs. Nevada-America pageant at the age of 51, she won a trip to Dover, Delaware, as a finalist in the National Chicken Cooking Contest. After the death of her husband in 1980, Yvonne stayed close to her brothers, and her children and grandchildren, dividing her time between Winnemucca and the ranch. During the last decade of her life she lived in Bellevue and Issaquah, where she spent seven years at The University House. She enjoyed Seattle culture and her last outing was to the Cirque de Symphonie in December. But a large piece of her heart always remained in the wide-open, sunny terrain of northern Nevada. In addition to her husband, Yvonne was preceded in deathby her brothers, Robert and Cesar Siard, and Rene Amat. She leaves two sons, Harold E. Hager of Bellevue, Washington; and Robert R. Hager of Reno, Nevada; and seven grandchildren. Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society .
