Gladys A. Doriot

Gladys Ann Doriot passed away peacefully with all of her family at her side in the family home of 41 years in Ridgefield, WA. She was born Dec. 10, 1934 to Alvin and Clara Grimm in Chelsea Township near Medford, WI, and grew up on the family farm. She was confirmed in the Medford Evangelical Lutheran Church June 5th, 1949., Gladys's first job was working as a nurse's aide for children at the Medford Hospital. Soon after her graduation from high school with Medford High's class of 1950, Gladys traveled to visit family in Okanogan, WA, where she worked a short time as a waitress at a local diner., During a visit home to Medford she met James M. Doriot, the man who would become her husband, and father of her four children., They traveled together during Jim's time as a welder on the trans-continental pipeline. After an injury during that venture, Jim sought work in the lumber industry. The winds of fortune took them to Wisconsin, Virginia, Nevada, and finally Bend, OR where all four children were born. Seeking new opportunities, Jim was recruited to a position as a moulder operator and knife grinder with Pacific Wood Treating which he accepted and moved his family to Ridgefield, WA., When her children were of school age, Gladys began her second career driving school bus for the Ridgefield School District. She moved from driver to Secretary of Transportation and finally to Director of Transportation for the Kalama, Woodland, Ridgefield and LaCenter School District Student Transportation Co-op (KWRL). Gladys served as President for the Washington Association for Pupil Transportation during 1986-87, and served on its Board of Directors from 1987 to 1992., She was recognized for 30 years of outstanding service upon retirement in 2002. Gladys's love for the people and city of Ridgefield inspired her and her close circle of friends to found the Ridgefield 4th of July Celebration and the annual Easter egg hunt. These celebrations have grown to become highly anticipated annual events attracting thousands of visitors to Ridgefield each year. Gladys was also a founding officer of the PWT Federal Credit Union., In 1978 Gladys was diagnosed with breast cancer. Refusing to let cancer define or dictate who she was or what she did, she soldiered on despite years of treatment and reoccurrences., Gladys ran for an elected position on the Ridgefield City Council, was elected and certified on Nov. 21, 1991 where she served for 17 years. Concurrently with her job as Transportation Director, a Department of Transportation third party commercial driver's license examiner and City Councilperson, Gladys served on the Board of Directors of CTRAN., In recognition of her exemplary community service, Gladys was honored with Ridgefield's 2002 Outstanding Citizen award. That same year Gladys was appointed by the Ridgefield City Council to the position of Mayor of the City and served two terms faithfully until 2006 when health issues dictated she retire. Not one to accept retirement without a fight, Gladys went on to volunteer with the American Red Cross., Travelers at heart, Gladys, Jim and family spent most summers at the family farm in Medford, WI. These were the best of times, spent with her mom and dad and many other family members, fishing, camping and enjoying the many scenic vistas these journeys afforded. During the years in Central Oregon, she spent many happy days searching for Indian arrow heads and exploring abandoned mining and ghost towns. Her large collection bears witness to her success. Her fondness for Native American Indian culture is proudly displayed in the artwork and artifacts she collected and displayed in her home. During her years traveling both personally and in her official capacities, Gladys was fortunate to have spent time in nearly every state in the continental U.S. She had an exceptional fondness for the City of New Orleans, especially Bourbon Street and its people and enjoyed her visits on numerous occasions., Finally early in 2010, her physicians had exhausted all reasonable treatment options. Gladys then did what she has always done; she lived each of her remaining days with zest and dignity. She enjoyed frequent visits from friends and family. Her sense of humor and quick wit was truly a gift to all., Nothing pleased her more than spending time with her daughters and sons, and grandkids. An amateur archeologist by nature, hunting artifacts was still high on the agenda the last few months! She left her family with great reluctance, not wanting to miss out on the next family adventure. Gladys is survived by her uncle, Everett Grimm of Middlebury, IN; two daughters, Lorie A. Harbour of Willow Creek, CA, Cathy L. Doriot of Ridgefield, WA; sons, Tracy O. Doriot of Washougal, WA and Orrin L. Doriot of Ridgefield, WA; grandson, Brandon M. Doriot of Everett, WA; and five great-grandchildren., The family would like to offer a very special thanks to all of the angels of Kaiser Hospice that made the final months at home so comfortable., At her request, services will be held Sat., March 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Ridgefield United Methodist Church at 1410 S. Hillhurst Road, Ridgefield, WA., We respectfully request charitable donations be made in her name to Kaiser Hospice 2701 NW Vaughn, Suite 140, Portland, OR 97210-5344 and the SW Washington Humane Society, 2121 St. Francis Lane, Vancouver, WA 98660., Please sign Gladys' guest book at:

Jason R. Brockmann

Jason Richard Brockmann, born in Englewood, CO September 24, 1992, was called home to his Lord and Savior March 4, 2011. Jason moved with his family to San Juan Island, WA where he attended grades K-4. In 2003, he moved with his family to West Jordan, Utah and returned to WA in 2006. He started playing year round sports in Kindergarten and played some combination of soccer, baseball, basketball, football and wrestling for the next 12 years. Jason was currently a Senior at Meridian High School and was scheduled to graduate in June. He volunteered at the Lighthouse Mission for his Sr project. In the Fall of 2011 he planned to either start college and study Business and Accounting or take a year off to work in sales and build savings. Jason had many admirable qualities and was energetic and open minded. He had a creative side and loved music and played the drums. He was also a very capable, persistent and intelligent student and his teachers said he was a "positive contributor to class" and a "good, steady worker." In the 7th grade, he tested at the 12th grade level for all subject areas. Though he excelled in many subjects including writing, reading and art, his favorite classes were History, Social Studies and Power Lifting. He was such a bright light in this world and the sky is "dull" now that he is physically gone. A smile from Jason was like pure sunshine and everyone loved being around him and his fun loving style. Jason had such a sweetness and purity of purpose within and his manner of being was uplifting and calming to anyone struggling physically, emotionally, socially or spirtually. He was loved and valued by so many friends and family and was known for being very loyal and for never saying a bad word about anyone. He didn't judge others and modeled the love of Jesus perfectly by loving others unconditionally. Jason was one of a kind and he touched and continues to touch so many lives. He lived life to the fullest and accomplished more in 18 years than most ever will. Jason was very generous and would forgo his own needs to help others. He didn't like anyone making a fuss over him and was unassuming and humble. John 15:13 says "Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends" and that is basically what Jason did the night of his passing. He loved "hanging out" with his many friends and was simply walking near his home to a friend's house to play video games when he was hit from behind by a truck. We are confident his spirit ascended to Heaven immediately upon impact. As a final generous action, Jason gifted every available organ and tissue he could to promote and save the lives of many others. Jason will be missed so greatly every day by his mother, Tammy Brockmann; his father, Ted Brockmann (Jan); his brother, Jeremy Brockmann; his grandparents, Richard and Darlene TroBaugh and Melburn and Marian Brockmann; numerous Aunts, Uncles, cousins and step siblings, and his cat, Pumpkin. We welcome everyone to attend Jason's Celebration of Life Service, Thursday, March 10, 2011, 12:00 Noon, at North county Christ the King, 1816 18th St., Lynden. A Graveside Committal will follow at 3:30 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery, 5977 Northwest Dr., Ferndale. Contributions may be made to the Jason Brockmann Benefit Account at any People's Bank branch. Checks can also be mailed to Peoples Bank, P.O. Box 233, Lynden, WA, 98264 Attn: Kim. You may share your thoughts and memories on multiple Facebook pages in Jason's name or at

A Gig Harbor resident for nearly 30 years, Kathleen was born in Liverpool, Great Britain, and raised in New York City. She moved to California with her husband, William J. Tiernan, where he began his law practice and they gradually created their family by adopting two sons, John and Peter Tiernan, and a daughter, Deborah Stucker, who survive her. A truly unique character, combining city savvy with a child-like innocence, she leaves her family with a trove of idiosyncratic sayings and a world-view all her own.In death, she joins her husband of 39 years, the love of her life, after having faced her widowhood of 15 years with grace and fortitude. Immediate survivors include a sister, Joan Buechner, her daughter-in-law Phyllis Tiernan, 3 grandchildren, Keri Tyson, Gary Winn and his wife Cari, Dannette Moreland and her husband Justin, 3 great-grandchildren, Kristal Heintz, and Evelyn and Avery Winn, and a great-great-granddaughter, Aliya Gonzales, born last fall. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews, in whose lives she actively participated, and by those who came to know and love her at Harbor Place (in her words, the "Happy Palace"), her last residence, especially her friend, Grace Jenkins. Never one to seek the spotlight, Kathleen Tiernan quietly made a significant difference in the lives of many - furthering an education here, staving off adversity there. Her generosity was made all the more effective by the faith she showed in those she helped. Her family and loved ones are forever in her debt. Contributions can be made in her name to the Humane Society,

She provided bookkeeping, clerking, and general support in Else Drug Company in Elm Creek (late Elm Creek Drug Co.). She was a member of the First Christian Church and Eastern Star. She always supported her children's academic and extra-curricular activities at Elm Creek Public School, including driving team members to away games. She later also worked for a real estate company in Kearney. Following the death of her husband in 1965, she moved to Seattle, Washington in 1969, to be closer to her children, and made Seattle her home for rest of her life. Mary Else worked for mortgage companies and property management companies in Seattle for many years. The gradual decline in her health and the onset of dementia was difficult for her and for those who loved her. She eventually moved into the Issaquah Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she lived out the remainder of her life, with weekly outings to Sunday lunches for as long as her health permitted. Mary Else was known for not following the expectations for a woman of her time. She always worked outside the home and loved to drive. She took up flying at the age of 50 and qualified as a licensed commercial pilot with an instrument rating. She had begun classes in aerobatics just before she decided to discontinue that hobby. She always took pride in her independence, in being self-supporting, and helping out her children when needed. She is survived by three children, Floyd Else in Bellevue WA, John F. Else in Omaha, and Mary L. Morris in Lacey, WA, by seven grand-children, Steve Else, Cathy Else Gault, Nathan Else, Nicole Williams, Trevor Menagh, Jennifer Blazian, Catherine Morris, and by several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd W. Else, her daughter Sandra Menagh, her son-in-law, Harold Menagh, and their infant son, Troy Menagh. A memorial service was held by family members in Washington in February and another family memorial service is planned for late June in Omaha. The family encourages contributions to the Alzheimer's Association 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, Ill 60601-7633, or on online at http://www.alz.org/index.asp.
