Dr. Bill Servais

The sailing master, Dr. Bill Servais, has passed on. He went too young, only 68, but perhaps in the way he would have preferred - a quick end. Bill was born August 21, 1942 and died of a heart attack in Mexico, January 25, 2011. He was sailing with his uncle, Dick Randolph, and they were in a harbor near Mazatlan. He was born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin. As a kid he wanted a job that allowed him to fish and hunt when he wanted to. He became a dentist so he could move to some perfect town and have a good income. After serving as a dentist in the Army, he moved to Bellingham in 1970. Bellingham offered great fishing along with sailing and seafood, and Bill was quick to master all three. He loved sailing the islands of the Pacific Northwest, catching or gathering seafood and cooking up incredible meals on small sailboats. Bill also enjoyed single handing his sailboat. He could sail into the Bellingham harbor in any wind or breeze, tacking and jibing between the docks and put his loved San Juan 24 sailboat 'Gwaihir' into its slip - a slip that was just outside the windows of the Yacht Club bar, where other sailors would bet whether or not Bill would screw up or smoothly dock his boat. He never missed. And he enjoyed sauntering into the Club a few minutes later as if he had done nothing at all. In the early 1980s he helped found the Corinthian Yacht Club in Bellingham and was its first Commodore. Bill and Corrinne married in 1967 and had two children, Mike and Nicola. Both of his children are now married and live near Seattle. Mike and wife Amie have daughters Teagan and Arden. Nicola and husband Tim Weiss have a daughter Cecilia. Corrinne still lives in Bellingham. In 1991 Bill bought the 42 foot steel junk rigged schooner 'Migrant' from Dick Johnson. In 1994 he sold his Fairhaven dental practice and set out sailing the Pacific Ocean. Over the years he also embarked on other adventures, working as a dentist in American Samoa, in Antarctica for four seasons, an Indian public health dental clinic in Arizona and on the Lummi Indian Reservation. He is also survived by his brother John in Bellingham, sister Mary in Seattle, siblings Jenny, Tina, Jim, Maggie, Richard and Helen in Wisconsin, and many nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death. Bill was a sailor of great skill. He would want to be remembered for that. He lived a very full life and had many ventures and adventures that the rest of us only dream of having. He brought his unique energy and focus to all that he did, from dentistry to sailing to preparing freshly gathered oysters. He is gone now and we are left with memories of him in action, doing things in his own way. The Corinthian Yacht Club will hold a memorial service this Sunday, March 20, 2 pm at the Squalicum Yacht Club facility on the Bellingham Waterfront. All Bill's friends are welcome.

Kasiana Harisiades Brannian

Kasiana Harisiades BRANNIAN Kasiana was born on March13, 1921 in Manchester, New Hampshire to Greek immigrants Evangelos and Demetra Harisiades. Her family moved to Brooklyn, New York in 1937. After graduating from high school, she went to work for Western Electric as a secretary where she eventually met an engineer and former marine from Bellingham, Washington, James D. Brannian. They married in 1956, and, after two years of living in Manhattan, they relocated to Spokane, Washington. In Spokane, they had two sons, adopted a dog, and immersed themselves in the Greek community, making many life-long friends. They later moved to Vancouver (Washington), Newport Hills, and finally to Mercer Island in 1972; their circle of friends growing wider with each new city. After raising her children, Kasiana returned to work at Pacific Northwest Bell in 1980 and retired in 1986. She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption and a past member of the Philoptocos society. Kasiana's early years were filled with adversity. Her mother passed when she was just 12, the loss of the family business during the Depression precipitated the move to New York, and her father passed when she was 17. Out of such trying circumstances, a beautiful and gentle soul emerged. Kasiana will be remembered by those who knew her for her grace, her kindness, her bountiful table, and her prodigious talent in the kitchen. She brightened our lives with her love and for that we will be eternally grateful. She was a charming hostess, a faithful friend, and a loving wife and mother. Kasiana passed away peacefully at home in her husband's arms on Monday, March 7, 2011 from complications of Diabetes after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years James D Brannian, son James B Brannian of Seattle, son Mark D Brannian and daughter-in-law Deanna of Portland, Oregon; as well as a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family wishes to express our gratitude to Kasiana's caregiver, Helena L. Fakatou, and to her alternate, Korina S. Vakauta. Their advice and expert care enabled us to keep Kasiana at home throughout her long illness. Kasiana's sons are especially thankful for the companionship that they provided for our father. On December 19, 2009, God blessed us with our beautiful baby girl, Lyla Kay Gintz. She was our dream come true. Only 14 short months later, on March 14, 2011, she went home to be with Jesus and is now sitting on his lap wrapped in his loving arms. From the moment she was born she was an absolute joy to all who were around her. She blessed us with her sweet personality and contagious smile. Sheri Pardi

Sheri PARDI Sheryl (Sheri) Jean Biehl Pardi, 46 of Redmond, Washington, passed away on March 13, 2011. Sheri was born November 12, 1964 to Robert Eugene Biehl and Margaret (Peggy) Rose White Biehl in Ketchikan Alaska. Sheri is survived by her husband Tony Vincent Pardi, her children Miranda Renee and Matthew Vincent Pardi, her mother Peggy Biehl Beers, her sister Kelly Allyn and a large extended family. Sheri is predeceased by her father Robert Biehl and her sister Barbara Biehl Bates. After graduating from Interlake High School in Bellevue WA, Sheri began a career in banking, starting out as a teller. Her career in banking ended in mortgage lending as a loan processor. After banking she started her dream job by becoming a mom. Sheri loved being a mother and everything that went with it. Sheri spent countless hours actively supporting her children in all of their activities. When her daughter's soccer team needed a coach, Sheri volunteered even though she knew very little about the sport. In addition to coaching, Sheri also volunteered as a referee. She spent countless hours volunteering at the schools on Education Hill from elementary to high school. That was in essence, Sheri. If someone needed something, she was there to lend a helping hand. Friends and neighbors always sought her counsel. They knew they would get sound practical advice. Sheri volunteered for several years in many positions for Redmond West Little League. When not helping out behind the scenes, Sheri could be found behind the backstop at home plate in her chair with a scorebook in hand. She was an accomplished seamstress, but she loved designing and creating costumes for theater even more. She was the Costume Designer for Second Story Repertory Theatre for about five years. She also created costumes for other local theaters as well as the drama programs for Redmond Junior High and Redmond High School. It was no surprise that her favorite holiday was Halloween. Sheri's friends and neighbors knew her as a caring person that would do anything for anyone in need. She never said no and she hardly ever accepted a no when offering to help. While battling health issues for the last three years, her biggest concern was not for herself but the fact that she could not do more for others. Sheri was loved by many but most especially by her loving husband Tony, her beautiful children Miranda and Matt and her mother Peggy and sister Kelly. Sheri will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Sheri can best be honored not by making a monetary donation to a charity, but by volunteering your time to a neighbor in need or a school or sport that needs more volunteers. Sheri fully understood that it takes a village. Sign Sheri's on-line Guest Book at www.Legacy.com.
